How many times have you come across the term “honeypot” in your lectures and textbooks, or security talks? How much do you know about them? Is “honeypot” a security tool or concept? In this presentation, I’ll walk you through the basics of honeypots, discuss its applications, and demonstrate some honeypots used by researchers.
About Emil Tan
Emil started his career in infosec as a researcher at the DSO National Laboratories, focusing primarily in the area of incident detection and deception. He was later appointed security administration at the Ministry of Defence, Singapore. Emil was then awarded the National Infocomm Scholarship by IDA Singapore to pursue his BSc Computer Science and MSc Information Security at Royal Holloway, University of London.
Emil is an active advocate in the infosec community. He joined The Honeynet Project as a Research Guide in 2010, where his main tasks are the deployment of honeypots and student mentorship. Emil is also the founder of Edgis, a special interest group dedicated to infosec enthusiasts. Apart from these commitments, he is also involved in infosec events such as BSides London, etc.
